Antique Furniture, Chaise Longue
The French had a word for it and we still use it today chaise longue or long chair which is quite an elegant piece of furniture which can be used in the home as a ‘lounger’ or even in certain situations a bed for the unexpected guest.
However, the distinctive ‘chaise’ is a thing of beauty and we at Distinctive Chesterfields have two basic models which will grace ant home modern or traditional. For example the Duchess Chaise Longue is of an elegantly sweeping design with special soft springing making this a chair which will be fought over by members of the family. The frame is assembled by hand, fully sprung and foamed before covering with the leather of your choice. Details such as a buttoned back can be applied or left off as required and we can cover this in a fabric of your choice of needed.

The traditional Chaise Longue is looked upon as a combination of chair and daybed, the chaise longue originated in the 17th century rococo period of the French King Louis XV. The simple long chair with canted back, armrests and leg support continues to flourish now in the modern era and Distinctive Chesterfield produce two versions of this popular piece, The Princess Chaise Longue with its classical looks crafted in dark antique leather, and the elegantly sweeping shape and softly sprung Duchess a truly comfortable, yet stunning chaise longue, particularly in white leather finish.
So, just how do you select the right chaise longue for your home? Firstly you have to decide which part of your home that you will put this and then you can choose from the two Distinctive Chesterfield styles, choosing the material and colour to suit your surroundings. Whichever if the two classic designs that you finally settle on, your Chaise Longue will receive the same meticulous care and attention during all stages of its hand making process.

Antique Furniture, Chaise Longue
At distinctive Chesterfields we are very proud of the two versions of Chaise Longue that we have made for many hundreds of customers. All of these people knew what they wanted but some had no idea how it became named. Basically it is French for long chair, but in modern France the term chaise longue can refer to any long reclining chair such as a deckchair, the name of course sounds a bit fancy but that’s the French for you! In North America they refer to it as a “Chaise Lounge” a mixed spelling and pronunciation, now established over there.
Perhaps the more popular of the two we manufacture is the Princess Chaise Longue built over a traditional hardwood frame, upholstered in classic leather and features a fully buttoned top. Because of the Victorian styling, we feel that our darker leathers are more suited to the look, but the full range of leather is, of course, available.
