Hand Dyed Chesterfield Leather Sofa

We have three different types of leather that we use to upholster our Chesterfield Sofas.

Just to make our customers aware of the changes in leathers:

Our Newcastle Leather Range is a high end Leather, hand buffed and full analined, (dyed all the way through). The Newcastle range has a big pull up effect which means when the Leather is worked on a Chesterfield Sofa the colour of the Leather lightens in certain areas and can become a shade or two lighter.

Some of the Leathers in our Premium Range can do this as well the colours are:

  • Premium Gamay
  • Alga
  • Smoke
  • Bruciato
  • Saddle
  • Buckskin
  • Chestnut
  • Burgundy; and
  • Dark Brown

When Buying a Leather Sofa, the difference in between leathers explained

We have customers call to find out ‘What is the difference between our leather‘, well I will give you a few pointers of each of the leather ranges we use.

Antique Leather

Better known as rub off leathers, these have been buffed and corrected to remove imperfections and embossed with a traditional print. Then the top coat can be removed to reveal its base coat for a two tone effect. We tend to do this on the high points of a chesterfield sofa or club chair, to give it the aged look.

Premium Leather

In total we have 19 colours in this range and they are all pull up leathers, they have a slight distressed finish. Some of the leathers in the range are lightly brushed with beeswax to give a pleasent matt apperance and some with a blend of oils and waxes to give a buff effect.

Hand dyed Leather

This is the most prestigous range we offer, the Newcastle colours are very smooth, full grain leathers finished with a blend of oils to acheive a pull up effect and a glossy finish. These leathers create a classic ‘Old Saddle’ apperence. Healed scars, scratches, neck and belly wrinkles will be apparent throughout these hides. They are  pure aniline leathers and so hides will fade in prolonged sunlight. The other four colours in this range Oak, Ebony, Chestnut and Walnut are vegatable tanned in a traditional way and is of the highest quality. Aniline dyed and hand padded to give a unique finish.

All the leathers we use for are products are good quality leathers and come from well known British tannerys and have been regarded by professionals and desingers as the benchmark for the industry.

Darwin Leather Club Chair

The Darwin club chair is a classic which would look at home in most household situations and more and more commercial enterprises such as hotels and offices are putting them into their premises. We are familiar with club chairs seen in television period plays and it is synonymous with historic gentleman’s clubs and of course the British embassies abroad.

Similar to our Suffolk Club Chair, the Darwin Club Chair is a true classic buttoned tub chair sporting a hardwood frame with exposed, polished legs, and a fully buttoned interior and seat. The Darwin leather club chair can be supplied to you in any of the three styles of leather finish that we offer and naturally the full range of colours that we offer can be chosen. Although the choice will be with you, the Darwin style of chair looks at it’s best in either antique black or antique red leather.

Derby, a Distinctive Chesterfield Sofa

The Derby Chesterfield Sofa is what most people think a chesterfield sofa should look like and they would not be wrong. This chesterfield is based upon the classic design and shape of the leather sofa’s that could be seen in many homes around the turn of the previous century.

The Derby is a stiff buttoned base and back and as with all our chesterfield products it is completely hand made, with a solid beech frame, all screwed and dowelled to ensure long lasting quality, in common with all other Distinctive Chesterfield products. With polished mahogany bun feet in three distinctive leather styles and finish, the Derby is available in all our colour range and can be 2, 3 or four seater versions.

Choosing the Right Leather Finish for your Sofa

Choosing the style of leather finish for your new Distinctive Chesterfield sofa or club chair is entirely a personal matter, it is your Chesterfield and as such the leather finish and colour is how you want it to look.

As satisfied customers will testify, there are three distinctive style of leather finish, antique leather, premium leather and hand dyed leather. Each one of these has its own characteristic and which one you may choose will depend upon where the sofa or club chair is to be put as well as the type of furniture, if any that is currently in the room.

Antique Leather is our standard leather, fine in quality and available in ten different colours. Premium Leather gives that something more for your sofa or club chair and it may well be the one that suits you. These leathers are pre-treated with a special blend of natural finishing products, as a result they give great contrast to any piece of furniture. Hand Dyed Leather is the ultimate in leather finishing and the hand dyed range adds an element of total individuality to your furniture.

Matching Your New Chesterfield Sofa to Your Existing Furniture

When you buy a new piece of leather furniture you want it to look bright and colourful, but if your room has an antique look and feel and you have period pieces of furniture in the room, your leather chair or sofa could look completely out of character. At Distinctive Chesterfields we have the answer to this dilemma; we will “antique” your chesterfield sofa or club chair for you.

The first thing that we do is to make your piece to meet all our normal requirements to the very highest standards that is found anywhere and then we would begin the process that gives your leather sofa and chair an antique look. The leather is then blacked with a special treatment which makes the whole of the hide appear very dark, in fact almost black; the frame is also treated in this way. When our craftsman is completely satisfied, special treatment follows and the appearance is lightened to give it a genuine antique look. The whole process is completed by sealing it to ensure that the effect is not lost in time. Your new “antique” distinctive chesterfield will blend into its new surroundings comfortably.

The Rutland Distinctive Chesterfield Sofa

When people see the Rutland chesterfield for the first time they describe it as curvy in shape with flowing lines and above so comfortable that you simply do not want to get out of it, why should you? The Rutland is very reminiscent of the era that produced the delightful “Art Deco” period of furnishing and art; we could not disagree with this thought!

Coming with a fully buttoned finish with a stiff sprung frame and extra foaming to give excellent support, yet supreme comfort for the user, the Rutland leather sofa is made for you in two, three and four seater styles, available with your choice of club chair as well as footstools of your choice in all styles of leather and choice of colours.
